Part of a painted scene showing the use of Fang Kuai (Pieced) paper.
When paper was first used for wallpaper, large sheets of paper were not yet available, so small pieces were joined together to create larger panels that could be painted with scenes and used as wallpaper. We have re-created this antique effect by joining small pieces of paper together in the exact method once used, showing the overlap and lines of each hand-laid piece. As these papers are all custom colored, any color is possible. The examples here show the effect with painted portions of a scene, and various colors chosen from Benjamin Moore historic colors. The paper can be clear colors, or antiqued, as the samples shown here are. We find that the antiquing enhances the overall effect. We generally use Benjamin Moore colors but customers may submit any color to match to for their project. These papers are at additional cost, and may be used with or without painted scenes.
Please note that due to differences in computer monitors and their color settings, these colors can only be used as an approximate guide.
